Hard Water Hair Havoc

Having a business in Harford County, Maryland means that many of our clients are currently having to deal with well water a.k.a hard water. While some have filtration systems that can add a little help, some do not.

What is Hard Water?

Hard water is water with a high mineral content. It is a result of dissolved minerals, including magnesium, calcium, and manganese. Using hard water in the home can result in numerous problems, such as soap scum in bathtubs and sinks, spots on dishes, dingy or yellowed clothing, clogged pipes, and possible skin infections due to trapped bacteria in pores under soap scum.

How Does it Effect My Hair?

Side effects can include brassy, green, or orange-tined hair due to too much iron in the water, brittle or crunchy hair, loss of body, lack of shine, and inability to perform chemical services, such as colors, perms, or straightening treatments. Soaps and shampoos are also less effective in hard water, due to its reaction with the minerals found in the water.
